ISHAM NEWS! (1-4-2009)
The previously announced ISHAM-SOS!-service is working again after a technical breakdown due to change of servers. ISHAM members are asked for advice on problematic clinical cases; just go to the member area and click on the ISHAM logo to enter the Forum and SOS! This time a case has been submitted which apparently, judging from sequence data, should be a novel Chaetomium-like species, but it does not sporulate. What to do if the fungus remains recalcitrant? We have the genus Madurella for non-sporulating isolates, but this genus is already phylogenetically heterogeneous. Your opinion is appreciated.
At the ISHAM congress in Tokyo a number of Working Group meetings will take place. For an overview of scheduled presentations, see here. Also a meeting for ISHAM-affiliated societies will be organized; for the agenda, click here. We will discuss how we can intensify contacts, and will show you some examples of successful ISHAM Working Groups which may stimulate participation.
At the occasion of the 109th meeting of the American Society for Microbiology in Philadelphia, May 17-21, 2009, a 2-day workshop on fungi will be organized. For general info, click http://gm.asm.org/ .
Further news on the 9th International Mycological Congress (IMC9) “The Biology of Fungi”, which will take place 1-6 August 2010 in Edinburgh, UK, can be found at the ISHAM website here.
