ISHAM NEWS! (18-06-2009)

Dear ISHAM member, The ISHAM congress in Tokyo and its satellite in Beijing have both been extremely successful, with altogether 922 participants from 53 countries in Japan and 280 participants from 20 countries in China. The full abstracts will soon appear on the ISHAM website, and later we will devote a special issue of Medical Mycology to some of the many highlights. I am very happy that I could finish my term as ISHAM President in such a euphoric way. It has been an exciting period, with lots of activities, and many more to come. I thank all those who have shared interest in ISHAM and gave the society an enormous boost into modernity. And I wish our current President, David Ellis, good luck! I will remain active in the Council for the next three years, it will be a pleasure to contribute to the growth of the international networks of our Society.

The British Mycological Society organizes its annual scientific meeting with the theme “The Fungal Cell”, in Dundee, U.K., September 1 - 4, 2009. Information can be found here.

The Xth International Fungal Biology Conference entitled “Frontiers in Fungal Biology” combined with the VIII Congreso Nacional de Biología Molecular y Celular de Hongos will be held in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, 6-10 December, 2009. One of the themes is “Frontiers in Medical Mycology”. The program can be found here.

The 24th International Conference on Yeast Genetics and Molecular Biology, with large sections on medically relevant themes, will take place in Manchester, U.K., July 19 - 24, 2009. Full info and program , see here.

A Gordon conference on Cellular & Molecular Fungal Biology will be held in Holderness, U.S.A., June 13-18, 2010. The preliminary program will soon be posted here.

A project on Colletotrichum phylogenetics including medically relevant species has started at CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre, Utrecht, The Netherlands. If you can provide strains from clinical samples, please contact U. Damm, E-mail: u.damm@cbs.knaw.nl.

The Proceedings of the 3rd Advances Against Aspergillosis have just been published as a Supplement to ‘Medical Mycology’. The 4th AAA is scheduled to take place in Rome, Italy, February 4-6, 2010. Scholarship deadline: October 1, 2009; abstract submission deadline: November 9, 2009. Full information can be found here.

Your application will be processed as rapidly as possible. On admission to membership you will be required to pay your first year's subscription fee (currently $50.00 US). You will then receive the current year's issues of Medical Mycology, regular e-mailed ISHAM news alerts and ISHAM-SOS service, have access to the ISHAM member forum and all other correspondence for members. You will also be entitled to vote at the ISHAM General Assembly.

In case your circumstances make it difficult to afford the subscription fee, a special fund (The Carolyn Halden Fund) exists to provide member's subscriptions for one or two years. Please explain your situation to the General Secretary.
