ISHAM 2009 Satellite Symposia held on May 29 - 31, Beijing, China
An exceptionally grand occasion, ISHAM 2009 satellite symposia was held by the Chinese Society for Microbiology, Sub-society of Mycology and Research Center for Medical Mycology at Peking University on May 29 – 31.
This is the first time that an ISHAM meeting was held in China, after the ISHAM 2009 Tokyo Congress, which near 300 participants attended. Professor Ogawa Hideoki, ISHAM 2009 in Tokyo Congress President; Professor Sybren De Hoog, ISHAM President; Professor Ellis David, ISHAM Elected President and Professor Zhao Guoping, President of Chinese Society for Microbiology, presented this symposium. Three keynote lectures, six symposiums with 63 speakers and 85 posters covered a broad range of updated mycoses of basic and clinical areas. The symposia provided a valuable opportunity for mycologists from different countries to meet face to face in Beijing. With the lively discussion and review of the latest research, advances and case reports in subjects, all participants shared their precious experiences and what they have done in several interesting fields. Everyone enjoyed both the scientific and social program. It was a successful meeting and full of active participation.
Professor Li Ruoyu, the Chairperson of ISHAM 2009 Satellite Symposia, with her Chinese colleagues, gave the best effort in hosting this symposia, and received very good feedback from all of the guests.
Medical Mycology is facing a new era as the new century begins. We do hope that more and more people will attend and focus on this vocation. The satellite symposia is the beginning in China but not certainly not the end.
