Sybren de Hoog is senior researcher at the Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures, Utrecht, and extraordinary professor at the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.  His research focuses on the ecology and phylogeny of clinical fungi.  He is first author of the Atlas of Clinical Fungi (2000, 1124 pp.).

Malcolm Richardson is an Associate Professor in Medical Mycology at the University of Helsinki, Finland and has an adjunct appointment at the Helsinki University Central Hospital.  His research focuses on the pathogenesis of fungal sinusitis and the impact of environmental moulds on health.  He is a co-author of Fungal Infection: Diagnosis and Management, 3rd Edition (with David Warnock)(2003, pp. 363), and The Pocket Guide to Fungal Infection , 2nd Edition (with Elizabeth Johnson) (2006, pp. 182).  He is an Editor of the Journal of Medical Microbiology and serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy and Current Fungal infection Reports.

Gerhard Haase is senior researcher, senior physician and associate professor at the Institute of Medical Microbiology, University Hospital RWTH Aachen, Aachen, Germany.  His research focus in medical mycology is on the improvement of diagnostic tests in the medical laboratory and on medical important black yeast species.

David Ellis
is Head of the Mycology Unit at the Adelaide Women's and Children's Hospital and an Associate Professor in the School of Molecular and Biomedical Science at the University of Adelaide.  His current research interests are the epidemiology and ecology of medically important fungi, especially Cryptococcus, Candida, Scedosporium and the dermatophytes, fungal taxonomy and antifungal susceptibility testing.

Vice Presidents  

Eva Burger is Associate Professor at the University of Sao Paulo Biomedical Sciences Institute Immunology Department in Sao Paulo, Brazil where she is the responsible for the Laboratory of Immunopathology of Mycoses.  Her area of scientific interest is anti-infectious immunity, mainly protective immunity against pathogenic fungi.  Her research focuses on host-fungal interactions employing experimental animal models.

Neil Gow is a member of the Aberdeen Fungal Group that constitutes one of the largest academic centres for basic research in medical mycology in the world.  He has specific interests in the molecular genetics of cell wall biosynthesis in fungi and the directional growth responses of fungal cells as well as the virulence properties of medically important fungal species.  In recent years he has focussed mainly on the genetics of glycosylation and the fungus-host interaction, and on chitin synthesis and hyphal orientation responses.  He is currently editor in chief of Fungal Genetics and Biology.

Yoshinori Nozawa is Director, Gifu International Institute of Biotechnology, and vice-director of Gifu Research Development Organization, Gifu, Japan.  His research interest is signaling mechanism of dimorphism in C. albicans.  He is vice-prsident of the organizing committee for ISHAM 2009 in Tokyo.

Kathrin Tintelnot works at the Robert Koch-Institute, Berlin, Germany. She is head of the consultant laboratory in Germany for Cryptococcus neoformans, Pseudallescheria / Scedosporium, Histoplasma capsulatum, Coccidioides species and other agents of imported systemic mycoses.  Her research interests have focused on the identification of mycoses from genera other than Candida or Aspergillus, which are frequently underestimated.

Aristea Velegraki is Assistant Professor in Mycology at the Medical School, University of Athens.  Main professional and research areas focus on education, classical and molecular taxonomy, metabolism, genetics, diagnostics and epidemiology of fungal infections.  Member of advisory European Union and International Committees.

Ira Salkin is currently a private consultant with his own firm, Information From Science LLC and adjunct associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the School of Public Health, State University of New York at Albany.  He formerly served in the New York State Department of Health in several roles including the Director of the state’s Medical Mycology Diagnostic Laboratory and mycology proficiency testing program.  He is the Editor-in-Chief of Medical Mycology, the official journal of the International Society for Human and Animal Mycology.
