Over the past 3–4 decades, medical mycology has advanced at an unprecedented pace. Amid this rapid progress, there is little time to reflect on the pioneers whose discoveries laid the foundations of today’s knowledge.
With the Pioneers in Mycology program, ISHAM seeks to preserve and share the stories of eminent mycologists who have shaped basic and clinical science across human, animal, and plant health. Through these video interviews, their experiences, insights, and personal journeys are made visible – offering inspiration and guidance to future generations.
This initiative represents another step toward establishing ISHAM as a central source of knowledge, perspective, and mentorship within the global mycology community.
The ISHAM Selection Committee members are Rita Oladele (Africa/PAMWG), Ruoyu Li (South-East Asia/AFWG), Mohammad Hedayati (North and West Asia), Oliver Cornely (Europe; Inaugural Co-founder), Beatriz Gomez and Alessandro Pasqualotto (Latin America/InFocus), Dimitrios P. Kontoyiannis (North America/MSGERC; MSGERC president; Inaugural Co-founder), and Justin Beardsley (Oceania/AMZMIG).
