Institut Pasteur Medical Mycology Course 2027

We are pleased to announce that applications are officially open for the 2027 edition of the Institut Pasteur Medical Mycology Course.

Conducted at the Institut Pasteur Education Center in Paris, France, from March 15 to April 2, 2027, this intensive three-week program offers advanced theoretical knowledge, extensive bench-side laboratory training, and interactive clinical discussions focused on the diagnosis, management, and pharmacology of fungal diseases.

Dates: March 15 – April 2, 2027
Application Deadline: November 30, 2026
Location: Education Center, Institut Pasteur – Paris, France
Course Directors: Dea Garcia-Hermoso & Olivier Lortholary
Language: English
Attendees: 20
Target Audience: Microbiologists (MDs, PharmDs, PhDs, and veterinarians) seeking the latest updates on invasive fungal infections

Comprehensive Curriculum & Practical Training

The course is structured to bridge foundational fungal biology with cutting-edge diagnostic workflows and clinical therapeutics:

🔬 Advanced Laboratory Techniques

  • Culture & Phenotyping: Media selection, mount preparation, slide cultures, and long-term strain preservation.
  • Molecular & Proteomic Identification: Direct microscopy, PCR, qPCR, Sanger and next-generation sequencing, microsatellites, MLST, and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.
  • Antifungal Susceptibility Testing: Hands-on microdilution according to EUCAST and CLSI guidelines, alongside commercially available susceptibility assays.
  • Histopathology & Biomarkers: Antigen and antibody detection assays, tissue staining, and histopathological diagnosis.

💊 Fungal Biology & Antifungal Pharmacology

  • Biology & Genomics: Asexual and sexual reproduction cycles, updated taxonomy databases, phylogeny, and Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) workflows.
  • Therapeutics & Resistance: Antifungal drug spectrum of action, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), molecular mechanisms of resistance, and laboratory-guided therapeutic drug monitoring.

🎯 Key Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to:

  • Investigate and manage fungal outbreak investigations.
  • Apply consensus international diagnostic criteria for invasive fungal diseases (IFDs).
  • Critically evaluate the merits and limitations of current therapeutic guidelines.

Diplomas & Accreditation
Participants who successfully complete the program will be awarded:

  • Institut Pasteur Diploma
  • University Diploma (DU) from Université Paris Cité
  • ECTS credits recognized toward the Advanced Master degree in Global Health (Pasteur-Cnam-EHESP).
