Black Yeasts – Chaetothyriales

Mission Statement

The black yeast consortium focuses on the order Chaetothyriales, with a main research question being the origin of vertebrate pathogenicity.

Achievements of the working group in 2023

The black yeast order (Chaetothyriales) has long been neglected, but today receives global attention with the description of numerous new species on the one hand, and the recognition of a wide spectrum of diseases at the other. Numerous genomes have already been sequenced. Specialties of pathogenicity of black yeast-like fungi are being investigated, among which are the prevalence of infections in CARD9 patients and their relationship with chromoblastomycosis, and also the special behavior of black fungi infecting clearly circumscribed groups of cold-blooded animals.

Upcoming events planned for 2024-2025

Pre-ISHAM congress workshop 2025.
