Young ISHAM advocates for the interests of young and early-career professionals in basic and clinical medical mycology. This community of young mycologists empowers members, enhances training, and fosters an international network, providing support for those at the early stages of their careers. Young ISHAM activities are supported and under the umbrella of the ISHAM Council which strongly supports young mycologists in their research and career.
The Young ISHAM is represented by Vice-President Aleksandra Barac (Belgrade, Serbia). Activities of Young ISHAM are supported by the national representatives who ensure global representation and promote collaboration among young and early-career mycologists worldwide.
Young ISHAM (Y-ISHAM) is offering support and education resources to young and early-career ISHAM members. Activities such as Y-ISHAM Day, Y-ISHAM sessions and Y-ISHAM party at ISHAM congresses provide valuable networking opportunities and foster collaboration, promoting career growth.
We advocate for young scientists and clinicians: Young ISHAM represents the interests of young and early-career mycologists globally through supporting and promoting continued learning and knowledge-sharing among the ISHAM and its members.
We promote networking and collaboration: Young ISHAM is supported by a network of young professionals open for international collaboration, exchange, and for building regional and global networks.
We provide educational support: Young ISHAM actively promotes ISHAM fellowships and awards, supports mentorships, and diverse opportunities to improve medical mycology education for early-career ISHAM members.
The Young ISHAM Day takes place during the regular ISHAM congress and hosts a range of enriching activities that drive networking and knowledge sharing, including sessions with “How to…?” topics which provide important knowledge on how to come up with research ideas, write manuscripts, present results and other, and sessions like “Round Tables” with mycology experts with aim to inspire young professionals, as well as sessions such as Quiz with awards for the winners and sessions on outstanding PhD results where young mycologist have opportunity to present their PhD thesis.
Young ISHAM collaborates with young mycologists from other basic science and clinical societies, such as Young ECMM.
